VOLUNTEER CAMPSITES GETTING BEAUTIFULLY UPGRADED!

June 22, 2024 – Weeki Wachee State Park broke ground this month to transform the four volunteer campsites located on the property creating a special place and an incredible destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Our volunteer campsites have always been a haven for those seeking adventure, connection with nature, and community with other like-minded campers. With this remodel, Weeki staff aimed to enhance these experiences. From upgraded amenities to improved accessibility, the goal was to create a welcoming space for all. Staff is committed to preserving the natural beauty and charm of Week Wachee Springs and has made this place very special. Staff can’t wait to share these new and improved campsites with you all. The remodel includes:

  • Cabanas with solar lighting for each site
  • New RV pads
  • New turf on the entire site
  • New fencing surrounding the perimeter
  • New landscaping and irrigation, with solar lighting
  • Deck box storage for each site

Many thanks go to HOME DEPOT for donating four trees, lumber, shovels, rakes, and gloves, and also providing volunteers to assist in the project. We would also like to thank AVENTURA NURSERY for donating some of the beautiful plantings.

Site reservations are required. For further information, contact David Sota at the park at (352) 610-5664, or email david.sota@floridadep.gov

Weeki Wachee River Protection Zone

June, 2024 – Never fear! We all love the Weeki Wachee – it’s soooo beautiful, but we have to protect it so we can enjoy it now, and in the future, right? This zone is to protect the river’s fragile ecology and does not alter public access to the river. It applies to paddleboarders, kayakers and boaters. Activities like swimming, snorkeling and floating on a raft or tube are permitted. Visitors are encouraged to protect this amazing river by not trampling vegetation, climbing on banks or trees, or discarding litter. https://www.hernandocounty.us

Weeki Wachee Springs named to National Register of Historic Places

Jan. 22, 2020 – It was designated as a state park more than a decade ago, and now the iconic, mermaid-filled Florida springs have landed on the National Register of Historic Places. Weeki Wachee Springs joins the more than 1,800 places in Florida on the list. Hernando County commissioners made the announcement during Tuesday’s meeting. The designation took effect Jan. 22, 2020.

“On behalf of Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee and our historic preservation staff, I congratulate you on achieving this formal recognition of the historic significance of this property,” Ruben Acosta, survey and registration supervisor for the Bureau of Historic Preservation, said in a letter to commissioners. “We appreciate your interest in preserving this important element of Florida’s cultural resources.”
